Frontline

A quarterly magazine, with news, features and in depth analysis on current issues in NI social welfare law and policy. Case studies and updates in key areas for those involved in advising on and administering social welfare law in Northern Ireland. Cost £2.95.  Free to members of Law Centre (NI).

Benefits and tax credits

We currently publish Students and Benefits, a guide to benefits and tax credits issues for people wishing to go into further and higher education.

Benefits and tax credits information can also be found in the tax credits section of our website and in our Encyclopedia of Rights.

Community care

We have briefings on community care issues for health and social care workers and advisers, all in PDF format.

You will also find regularly updated notes on community care in our Encyclopedia of Rights.

Employment

Rights of Employees and Statutory Sick Pay are part of our Encyclopedia of Rights. They summarise the rights of workers and employees.

Human rights

Rights in Progress, a guide for advisers on case law stemming from the Human Rights Act and the European Convention on Human Rights. The updated and expanded third edition, published in August 2007, can be ordered for £18.95 [£9.50 for students and members of Law Centre (NI)]. Order Rights in Progress here

Immigration and asylum

Immigration and marriage/civil partnership/cohabitation gives immigration information for non European husbands, wives, civil partners and unmarried partners of UK and European citizens.  It is part of our Encyclopedia of Social Welfare Rights.

We publish multilingual leaflets signposting immigration advice services and we distribute Refugee Action Group publications.

Mental Health

Our policy unit produces briefings on mental health and capacity legal developments.

In 2004, the Law Centre published Unmet Need: A study of mental health legal advice and information services in Northern Ireland, which helped inform legal and policy developments in this important area.

Migrant workers rights

Your Rights in Northern Ireland: a guide for migrant workers is published in association with the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission and ANIMATE.

The Law Centre publishes My Rights, a guide for Bulgarian & Romanian students and self employed people.
