Encyclopedia of Social Welfare Rights

Frontline

Students and Benefits 2009-2010 (text version) (PDF version)

Rights in Progress, a guide for advisers on case law stemming from the Human Rights Act and the European Convention on Human Rights. Exploited? Multilingual booklet (PDF)

This booklet for people who have been trafficked briefly explains their rights and how to contact us for help. Twelve languages: English, Albanian, Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, French, Lithuanian, Malaysian, Mandarin, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Thai.

An A4 poster with the word ‘Exploited?’ in all the languages above, and the Law Centre’s advice line number.  For display in public areas.

Immigration advice booklet (PDF)

This booklet tells people where they can get immigration advice in Northern Ireland. Twenty-one languages: English, Albanian, Arabic, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Czech, Farsi, French, Hindi, Hungarian, Lithuanian, Mandarin, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Tetum, Turkish, Urdu.

Immigration and marriage /civil partnership / cohabitation (text version)

A briefing providing immigration information for non European husbands, wives, civil partners and unmarried partners of UK and European citizens.  It is part of our Encyclopedia of Rights.

Sanctuary in a cell summary (text version)

Published in 2001, Sanctuary in a cell is a report on the detention of asylum seekers in prisons in Northern Ireland.  The practice has now been discontinued, and immigration detainees are now routinely sent to detention centres in England and Scotland (see Forced to flee below).  The report remains an important document in understanding the specific history of Northern Ireland's treatment of asylum seekers. You can order the full report for £9.95 here.

A guide for Bulgarian & Romanian students and self employed people.  Currently only available in English.

Your Rights in Northern Ireland: a guide for migrant workers

Published in association with the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission and ANIMATE. There are four booklets:

EEA: a guide for people from the European Economic Area (or EEA) covering Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Liechenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Rep of Ireland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland. (This booklet is also valid for people from the A8 countries who have lived and worked in registered employment for over a year in the UK)

A8: a guide for those from the A8 countries: Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovak Republic and Slovenia

Work Permit: a guide covering nations where a work permit is needed to gain employment in Northern Ireland (for example Russia, India, China).

A2: a guide for workers from Romania and Bulgaria.
