The rate relief scheme for students will be closing in December.  People currently benefiting from the relief will have transitional protection providing the original eligibility rules continue to be met.

The decision follows an evaluation of the scheme which showed that it was ineffective and represented poor value for money.  DEL and the Department of Finance and Personnel say they intend to divert the savings to other forms of support for students.
