Welfare reform

The coalition government has published “Universal Credit: welfare that works”. The White Paper outlines plans to introduce legislation to transform the benefit system by creating a new Universal Credit.
Having consulted on the principles and models for welfare reform in its earlier 21st Century Welfare paper, the government plans to introduce a Universal Credit that it anticipates will simplify the benefit system and increase work incentives.
