Benefit check

Cost of Living Guide

Many people in Northern Ireland do not claim the benefits they are entitled to. People assume that if they are working and/or own their own homes, they will not be eligible for extra financial support. However, that is not always the case. For example, you can get additional financial help if you have a long-term disability or health condition, provide care for a family member or are a pensioner on a low income.

If you are struggling to make ends meet, you should check to see if there are benefits you are entitled to and could be receiving. You can do this with an online benefit calculator like this one:

If you are unsure about doing an online check yourself, you can contact your local advice agency for help:

You can also contact the Department for Communities, as part of its ‘Make the Call’ campaign, on 0800 2321271 or visit the website below for more information.

Always get advice from your local advice agency before making a claim for Universal Credit for the first time.
