Cliff Edge response: Discretionary Support

The Cliff Edge Coalition has responded to the Department for Communities Consultation on Changes to the Discretionary Support Scheme – Draft Equality Impact Assessment.

The Coalition, which is made up of over 100 organisations throughout Northern Ireland, has serious concerns that restrictions on the Discretionary Support scheme will intensify poverty and compound inequalities for those who are already struggling, including lone parents and children.

This response draws on submissions to the EQIA on Changes to the Discretionary Support Scheme from Cliff Edge Coalition members, including Law Centre NI, Housing Rights, the Women’s Support Network and its academic adviser (Dr Ciara Fitzpatrick) and colleagues at Ulster University School of Law.
