Law Centre NI is thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity to join us as a trainee solicitor in 2024 as part of the Legal Education Foundation’s esteemed Justice First Fellowship programme.
This year we are delighted that the successful candidate will be sponsored by Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom (UK) LLP through the Justice First Skadden Trainee (JUST) Programme, and will take up the position as a JUST Programme Trainee.
If you are interested and want to know more you can join Skadden and Law Centre NI during an online Q&A on Tuesday 5 December at 13:00. Please email mathieu.pintocardoso@skadden.com if you are interested in joining the webinar.
The Fellowship is an extraordinary opportunity to join a network of emerging social justice lawyers across the UK, including at other law centres. This is the fourth Justice First Fellowship to be hosted by Law Centre NI and we are delighted to welcome another Fellow to our team.
Through the JUST Programme, which is administered by The Legal Education Foundation and hosted by Law Centre NI, the trainee will be given the opportunity to make connections with Skadden attorneys and professional staff, train alongside Skadden attorneys on relevant areas including immigration and social security, and receive funding for ancillary training support costs. The aim of the JUST Programme is to support the training of the next generation of social welfare lawyers who will become leaders in their field and important advocates for access to justice. It was inspired by the U.S. Skadden Fellowship Program, which has provided two year fellowships to over 800 talented lawyers to pursue social welfare law. The successful holder of the post at Law Centre NI will also benefit from training and networking opportunities with the other JUST Programme Trainees (former and current) and the wider U.S. Skadden Fellowship network.
More information on the JUST Programme is available here.
Our Head of Social Security, Owen McCloskey, was a Justice First Fellow with the Law Centre and said: “I would never have had the opportunity to qualify as a lawyer without the Justice First Fellowship. It’s given me an opportunity to do much more good work for people that I wouldn’t have been able to do before.”
Director of Law Centre NI, Ursula O’Hare, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to host a fourth Justice First Fellow at the Law Centre and are grateful to The Legal Education Foundation for supporting the development of the future generation of social justice lawyers through this valuable scheme. The Fellowship provides an amazing opportunity to forge a career in social welfare law, while being supported by both the host organisation and the Legal Education Foundation through shared learning and bespoke training. We’re also delighted that the successful holder of the post at Law Centre NI will be sponsored by Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom (UK) LLP through Skadden’s Justice First Skadden Trainee (JUST) Programme, and will take up the position as a JUST Programme Trainee.”
