Our response to plans to replace Human Rights Act

Law Centre NI remains deeply concerned as the Government continues with its plans to replace the Human Rights Act with a Bill of Rights.

We have said before that the proposals will have grave ramifications for effective access to justice and the protection of fundamental rights.

The Human Rights Act is a powerful tool which allows ordinary people to hold the Government to account. It affords protections to everyone. Any erosion of these protections will make it more difficult for people, particularly the most vulnerable and disadvantaged, to effectively realise their rights.
