Law Centre NI shortlisted for prestigious Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Award

Law Centre NI’s work across Northern Ireland in ensuring access to justice for all has been recognised with a nomination at the prestigious UK-wide Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Awards (LALYs).

The Law Centre is a finalist in the Regional Legal Aid Firm/Not-for-Profit Agency category alongside fellow nominees the Family Law Company in Exeter and Watkins and Gunn in Cardiff.

Now in their 19th year, the LALYs are organised by the Legal Aid Practitioners Group (LAPG) and celebrate the remarkable work of legal aid lawyers across the UK.

Director of the Law Centre NI, Ursula O’Hare, said: “This is a wonderful acknowledgement of the tireless work of the whole team and of the vital role of law centres in ensuring access to justice for everyone. For over forty years, Law Centre NI has stood for a more equal and just society, using the law as a tool for social change. Getting through to the finals of the LALY Awards is a recognition of the difference that the Law Centre has made to people right across Northern Ireland over many years”.

Professor of Law and Social Justice at Ulster University, Grainne McKeever, who nominated the Law Centre, added: “I am delighted to see the work of this amazing team getting the recognition it deserves. The impact of this small law centre in achieving real change is now in the spotlight and I will be keeping my fingers crossed for the team on the night”.

Winners will be announced at the LALY21 Awards ceremony to be broadcast live on 6 July. For more details: The 2021 Virtual Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Awards Tickets, Tue 6 Jul 2021 at 19:00 | Eventbrite.
