Law Centre Publishes New UC Sanctions Guide for Advisers

Law Centre NI has prepared a new guide to help Northern Ireland advisers support and respond to claimants who are at risk of receiving a Universal Credit Sanction. You can view and download the guide ‘here‘.

It is important that advisers are equipped to understand the reasons, risks and potential avenues for redress should a sanction occur. Recent DWP statistics released in August 2024, show a correlation between ethnicity and likelihood of receiving a Universal Credit sanction. Law Centre NI has sought access to NI based statistics and calls on DfC to release more detailed statistics in relation to sanctions here.

In the meantime, the Law Centre is hosting an online training session to help advisers better understand how to approach and deal with queries about Unirvesal Credit Sanctions. The online session is scheduled for 14 January 2025 from 11:00 -12:30 and you can find more information ‘here‘.
