Updated asylum statistics May 2025
Migration Justice at Law Centre NI has updated their briefing which outlines statistics around people coming to Northern Ireland seeking asylum.
While the number of refugees and asylum seekers in Northern Ireland has increased in recent years, Northern Ireland hosts only 2.47% of all the people in the UK who are seeking sanctuary.
Most of the statistics have been obtained from Home Office datasets, which were published in May.
For more information, have a look at the updated briefing.

Our previous statistics briefing papers look at asylum statistics as well as ‘safe and legal routes’ – the ways in which people are granted visas to come to or stay in the UK for humanitarian reasons. Safe and legal routes include refugee resettlement programmes and also a number of nationality-specific bespoke immigration schemes.
