Employment Law in Northern Ireland continues to change at a rapid pace. This course provides an overview of existing and new employment law as it relates to employees. Due to the subject’s increased relevance and importance in today’s employment market, and in response to comments from past attendees, the course is now run over a two day period to maximise attendee input and participation.
This course is aimed at advisers and trade union representatives whose job involves advising on employees’ rights including pay and pay related issues, holidays, maximum working hours and breaks, unfair dismissal
and redundancy.

PERSONAL INDEPENDENCE PAYMENT

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) now replaces Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for eligible working age people aged sixteen to pension age in Great Britain. Depending on the outcome of the welfare reform debate in Northern Ireland, PIP may be launched here sometime during 2016.
This course illustrates the key law, information, components and criteria for qualifying for this new benefit.

With recent budget announcements and the onset of the Welfare Reform Bill, there have been many changes to the benefits system, with more on the way. Sometime during the next eighteen months Universal Credit will be introduced which will drastically change the benefits landscape. This course will illustrate what Universal Credit is, the benefit application process, the different elements that will make up Universal Credit and how they will affect other benefits.

This course examines the legal rules governing assessment of capacity and the process which must be followed when a ‘best interests’ decision has to be made on behalf of an adult lacking capacity. It also explores the current legal position in relation to decisions taken by Health and Social Care Trusts which may involve depriving a person of her/his liberty.
