Who should attend?

Solicitors and advisers who work on asylum and trafficking cases and anyone working within the criminal justice system, NGOs and anyone with an interest in the law relating to asylum seekers and trafficking.

What does the course offer?

1. The Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) is an independent public body set up to review possible miscarriages of justice and decide if they should be referred to an appeal court. This course will cover the prosecution of asylum seekers and refugees for offences relating to their flight from persecution (typically false passport offences) and will consider Article 31 of the Refugee Convention, the case of R v Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court and Another, Ex parte Adimi [1999] EWHC Admin 765 and section 31 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999; and
2. the prosecution of victims of human trafficking through a case study.
