Law Centre NI and UNISON have worked together to determine the healthcare skills of asylum seekers and refugees in Northern Ireland. In March 2022, we distributed a simple online survey.
Key results:
- 15 doctors, 3 consultants, 2 surgeons, 7 nurses and many others responded to the survey.
- 90% of asylum seekers would work in healthcare if training was provided.
- 72% of refugee health professionals are not employed according to their qualifications.
- 87% told us they needed help to get their qualifications recognised in the UK.
