Law changes for bereaved parents

Bereavement Support is now available to cohabitating parents following the death of their partner after a recent a change in the law.

This makes it possible for cohabitating parents with dependent children to claim bereavement benefits following the death of their partner. Previously, a bereaved parent had to show that they were married or in a civil partnership with the deceased in order to be eligible for support.
