Cliff Edge Coalition briefing paper on its three key asks to help alleviate poverty

Following the restoration of the Northern Ireland Executive, the Cliff Edge Coalition has produced a short briefing paper to update Cliff Edge members and elected representatives on its three key asks and why they are vitally important in order to alleviate poverty in Northern Ireland.

These include:

  • Removing the five-week wait in Universal Credit.
  • Mitigating the two-child limit.
  • Support for private renters affected by the Local Housing Allowance.

In the briefing paper, there is reference to new research findings which reinforce the rationale for the Cliff Edge Coalition’s asks and support our recommendations.

The Cliff Edge Coalition is a group of over 100 organisations throughout Northern Ireland which have come together to call for measures which are urgently needed to strengthen the current benefit system in Northern Ireland.

We encourage Cliff Edge members and elected representatives to advocate for these asks in their daily work. The recommendations are evidence-based and pragmatic and will go a long way to protect those in Northern Ireland affected by financial hardship and poverty.
