Law Centre NI submission to UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women and Girls
In advance of the visit of the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women and Girls to the UK from 12th-21st February 2024, we have prepared a submission that focusses on migrant women.
Our view is that the immigration system can contribute to and perpetuate situations of domestic abuse. Insecure immigration status can result in victims and survivors effectively becoming trapped within abusive situations, having to make an impossible choice between staying with an abusive partner or risking immigration enforcement.
