Supporting advisers: Our Social Security Expert Masterclass series

Our social security team has been delivering a series of online Expert Masterclasses in February and March to support advisers in their work.

The final two Masterclasses in the series will cover Right to Reside Issues and Social Security Essential Top Tips.

RIGHT TO RESIDE ISSUES, 15 MARCH, 1-2PM

Due to the complexity of Right to Reside matters, Law Centre NI continues to receive a significant number of calls to our advice line in relation to right to reside issues for benefit claimants.

Since the UK’s withdrawal from the EU the process of answering these questions has become even more complicated and so this Masterclass will cover key issues that advisers should be aware of.

It will highlight important recent judgments which have significantly changed our understanding of matters such as the competent state and treatment of pre-settled status claimants and their families at times of hardship.

The Right to Reside Issues Masterclass will be led by our Social Security Legal Officer, Katie McCabe, and will benefit anyone who deals with benefit claims for non-UK nationals.

SOCIAL SECURITY ESSENTIAL TOP TIPS, 22 MARCH, 1-2PM

Our Social Security Essential Top Tips session with Law Centre NI Head of Social Security, Owen McCloskey, will provide a ‘state of the nation’ style overview of developments in social security over the last year.

The Essential Top Tips Masterclass will translate case law developments and legislative change into bitesize tips that advisers can immediately use in their day-to-day advice work. Owen will outline changes across multiple benefits in the last year in a short, sharp session which will leave attendees better equipped to provide advice and representation to their clients.
